Film Poster analysis
Film and TV Language Homework
Blade Runner
Blade Runner
The film poster suggests that the film might be about villains vs heroes, as the male character is holding a gun which implies he needs to protect himself or someone, further implying he is the main character in the film. The tag line used also suggests that the main character needs to protect himself from something evil and needs to defeat it. The female character looks quite wicked by her deadpan facial expression as well as her dark hair. In addition to this, the cigarette she is holding suggests that she might be the 'femme fatale' as it gives her a sense of evilness, however her appearance also creates a sense of seductiveness which makes her alluring. Therefore she might be the main villain that main character falls in love with but also has to defeat.
The story line of the film might be that the main character is a scientist or an engineer that creates advanced robots but the villain attempts to steal the robots in order to make the robots evil to destroy the world. The iconography used in the film, such as the futuristic buildings, light, and the main character suggests the genre of the film is sci-fi and perhaps thriller because of the gun.The target audience will be sci-fi and thriller fans as well as young people ranging from teens to young adults. Thriller is generally know for appealing towards males so perhaps this films target audience is males.
Scary Movie 2
The film poster suggests that the film is a horror/comedy with a scary villain attacking the characters as the three characters in the poster have are either wearing masks or their facial expressions as well as props imply they are the villains. The story line might be that the villains are attacking/haunting the other characters leading to their inevitable deaths as the main character attempts to stop the villains. The genre of the film is horror/comedy because the quote "absolutely hilarious" obviously infers that there are comedic moments in the film as well as the pastiche used in the poster. The references on the two female characters tops are used to mock the original films they are from in a comedic way as the reference of 'what lies beneath' is from a movie but here it is used to hint at whats under the characters clothes. Also, the other reference 'i love dead people' is used to mock the movie The sixth sense but here it is used as a parody and to make the character seem dumb. The target audience is probably young adults over the age of 18 as it seems that the film might be inappropriate as well as it being a horror movie so their must be an age limit.
