Mise-en-scene blog task

1) Find a distinctive still image and write an analysis of the mise-en-scene. Use each of the aspects you've learned in the lesson

In this image i can infer that the genre is action  by the overall mise-en-scene of the image.Firstly, all the characters in this image are wearing smart, formal suits and the main characters posture is quite firm as he is standing straight looking at something with a serious facial expression. The other characters seem to be beaten up which suggests the film is an action with violence. The setting looks like an expensive/posh hotel room which suggests that the characters may be fighting over money. In the image there is key lighting used as there is not much of a colour contrast between dark and light. The room is lit up with the main light and the lamps.

2) Find TWO film or TV extracts on YouTube from different genres (e.g. horror, sci-fi, costume drama). Embed them in your blog post and write a comparison of the mise-en-scene in each.

The Assassin

By the film poster i can infer that the film is about a woman who has trained to be assassin that has no emotions and is very violent and vicious. The story line might be that she works for a gang or  a criminal organisation where she is forced to kill people that might be enemies of the gang, she tries to escape the gang but the only way she can do that is to assassinate everyone in the organisation.
The genre might be action/drama, the action is when she has to kill people and the drama is how she can escape the gang.
I think the target audience of the film is young adults as the violence and drama might appeal to them more than teenagers or older people.
The dark colours like red has connotations to rage, anger and malice and black has connotations to power, death, evil, fear and the unknown. The mood created by the colours is quite eerie and mysterious.
The type of shot is a long shot as you can see the characters whole body this suggests the character has power as she is the only character in the film poster and it takes up most of the space so it implies she has power and strength.
Lastly, the characters pose makes her look powerful and strong, she is looking down which creates some mystery and has a serious facial expression hinting at her personality. The character also seems to be holding a knife or blade which hints at the genre of the film and the role she plays in the film.

Replicas

The film poster suggests that the story line might be scientist tries to replicate himself in the form of a robot but it gets out of control and the robot begins to form its own evil thoughts to destroy all humans. The scientist needs to prevent this from happening but it is difficult due to the robot's intelligence.
I think the genre of the film is a sci-fi/action with elements of thriller. The sci-fi would be the robots and the action is how the scientist is going to defeat the robot.
I think the target audience is teenagers that are sci-fi fans as the complicated plot of the film will appeal to them.
The dark lighting in the film poster creates mystery and suspense. The tagline used hints at the genre of the film, suggesting it is sci-fi/action related. The type of shot is a close shot of the characters face.
